Renderer guide

Each rendering path has its own strengths. Here is when each one is worth trying.

VirGL Overlay

Uses virgl-renderer and needs OpenGL ES 2.1 or 3.0 and higher. One of the main paths in ExaGear and the practical default for devices without Turnip, Zink or DXVK.

VirtIO-GPU

Uses virgl_vtest_server with open drivers such as Turnip and Zink. Needs compatible Adreno hardware: Adreno 616 and newer, while Adreno 610 and 612 are not supported on this path.

Turnip

An open-source Vulkan driver for Adreno GPUs, most relevant on Snapdragon devices. It generally targets Adreno 610 and newer and needs access to GPU device files.

Zink

Translates OpenGL to Vulkan. Useful on GPUs that support Vulkan but have weaker native OpenGL support.

DXVK

Translates Direct3D calls to Vulkan. On compatible Adreno devices it can improve performance or compatibility, but it is not a universal fix - some old games still run better on WineD3D, DDRAW or VirGL.

DDRAW

For very old Windows games. Broadly supported across GPU types and often the right choice for early 2D titles.

LLVM

A software renderer. It is slow, but useful when hardware acceleration does not work correctly or when compatibility matters more than speed.
